The SSM Heart Institute comprises the comprehensive heart services of DePaul Health Center, St. Joseph Health Center, St. Joseph Hospital West, St. Joseph Hospital of Kirkwood, St. Mary’s Health Center and St. Clare Health Center (opening Spring 2009). Together with an excellent team of more than 100 cardiologists, electrophysiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons, we provide more inpatient heart care than any other heart program in St. Louis.

No other area program has more experience with cardiac catheterizations that open up clogged arteries, or open heart surgeries performed with the amazing beating heart technique that avoids the potential complications of using the heart-lung machine. The numbers are important, because research has shown that outcomes improve with experience. And our quality performance measures for heart care are among the highest in St. Louis and far above national benchmarks.
