Restoring Quality of Life

For patients at SSM Rehab, what started out as a normal day did not end as one. There was a crush of metal, or a moment of darkness, that changed everything.

SSM Rehab is here to help patients and their families down the long path to recovery…to reclaim the life they had before a debilitating accident, stroke or brain injury. Rehabilitation is hard, grueling work for patients. Each day is a challenge for them as they work to recover. Yet miracles do happen, and God’s presence is felt by anyone who walks the halls of an SSM Rehab unit and sees patients working to reclaim their lives.

SSM Rehab Foundation provides funds for programs and services to comfort and care for patients, purchase equipment and support caregivers. We also help patients already living with financial challenges – the uninsured, the underinsured and those on Medicaid – made only more difficult by an accident or illness.

SSM Rehab Foundation supports the entire community that makes up SSM Rehab – patients, family and friends, and staff.

The Foundation solicits charitable contributions for these programs & services:

Angel Fund
Home equipment like a tub transfer board is often necessary to be discharged home, and yet can be a financial burden if not covered by insurance. The Angel Fund buys such equipment for patients with financial need.

Caregiver Classes
A bimonthly class in partnership with SSM Home Health helps family members and other caregivers prepare for a patient's return home. Classes focus on making physical modifications for the home, equipment that may be needed, home safety information to prevent falls and injuries, tips for using assistive devices, and how to access community resources.

Community Care Fund
Created in fall 2005 in response to changes in Medicaid/Medicare, the Community Care Fund provides outpatient day-hospital and other rehabilitative services to those who would otherwise go without, and for whom outpatient therapy is critical to improving their function and quality of life. More than $100,000 in care has been provided to date.

Employee Emergency Relief Fund
Employees experiencing a financial crisis, such as illness, unexpected home/auto repair bills, or interruption in child support, can access emergency assistance.

Special Capital Improvements & Equipment
Provided on an as-needed basis to support clinical excellence and state-of-the-art treatment for rehabilitative patients, past projects have included rooftop expansion, Easy Street Living Skills Unit installation, and specialized equipment purchases.

Who We Are
The Foundation was established in 1990 by SSM Health Care-St. Louis as a tax exempt organization, as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code, to support SSM Rehab Hospital. We are governed by a Board of Directors and have a small staff to support our fundraising.

We have a cadre of volunteers who help us fulfill our mission, and we host several special events throughout the year to support our programs and services.

How You Can Help
You can help us rekindle hope for those rebuilding their bodies and their lives at SSM Rehab.

Direct your gift to the fund or program that means the most to you. Make your gift in honor, for the speedy recovery, or in memory of a colleague, friend or loved one. There are many ways to give.

You can profoundly and immediately impact the life of a patient recovering from traumatic illness or injury. Unrestricted gifts of checks or cash will be applied toward identified priorities as determined by the Foundation.

• Restricted gifts to specific funds will be designated per the donor’s wishes.
• Gifts of stock or securities can offer tax advantages for the donor.
• Bequests and other estate planning gifts can perpetuate your support for years to come.
